here we go again… ear ringworm?

One of cici’s ears (right ear) is very red, itchy and has a rash… it is the same side as the ringworm patch on her right leg above her surgery scars.  Her other ear looks normal, no redness, no itchiness… Strange, huh. I put some rescue remedy cream on it this morning and will try other ringworm cures but am wondering if anyone has any explanations or suggestions.  If it continues, I will call the vet when we get back home. We are still at the beach and will be driving back on Wed. It’s been kind of rainy here and we missed a huge snowstorm in the Sierras.  Would really like to stay here…  Found a place to get her nails trimmed and good food.

  • I have never heard of ringworm in the ear, but who am I? You probably should take her to the vet now. Wednesday is an awful long time from now.

I just had a litter of foster kittens with ringworm, and if you looked at it under the blacklight, you could see that one of the kittens had it in her ears. So, ear ringworm is not unheard of. Given that she already has a ringworm spot, I’d guess the rash is indeed ringworm.
I suppose there is a chance it could be this weird bacterial infection that I have heard of lately - it looks like ringworm under a blacklight, but the tests come back negative. If it doesn’t start responding to ringworm treatment in a week or so, I’d have it looked at. It’s not like ringworm is deadly - it’s just annoying and contagious to people.
