Pit Bull Week

Are you following Pit Bull week on HuffPost?  You should be…

Screen shot 2014-07-29 at 2.23.15 PM

HuffPost Green is launching a week-long, community-driven effort to bust the myths and raise awareness about pit bulls, a maligned “breed” that often bears the brunt of dated, discriminatory legislation that can make it near impossible for these dogs to find a forever home.

You can follow along with HuffPost Pit Bull Week here:

or on Facebook and Twitter where we’ll be using the hashtag #‎PitBullWeek.

Pit bulls have long been popular family pets, noted for their affection and loyalty, but you don’t hear much about gentle, loving pit bulls in the media because a well-behaved dog doesn’t make headlines.

And hopefully, we will have an interview with a very special guest this week, a pit bull named Susie and her mom, Donna. On Sunday August 3, this weekend, a movie about their very amazing life together will be on TV. The movie is called Susie’s Hope.

Celebrities and pit bulls

beautiful story… we applaud, appreciate and love to hear these tales about celebrities who love their pit bulls and advocate for them. The more that this information gets out into the public arena, the better for us pit bull guardians/advocates and the dogs we love.

http://hollywoodjournal.com/making-a-difference/producing-pit-bulls-and-preconception/20130225/

Last week actor James Gandolfini, best known for his role in the show Sopranos, died of a heart attack in Italy. As people mourn his death, we have been heartened to hear that his last/final film, a crime drama Animal Rescue, is the story of an abandoned pit bull pup rescued from a dumpster. His own dog, a pit bull named Duke, was his companion and it has been said that this film will bring to light the horrors of BSL and awareness to the plight of pit bulls.

Funny Pet Photos

your dog/cat can have their own business card…

New Apps Help Pets Get Adopted by Making Funny Pet Photos Easy

Of the 6-8 million animals being cared for in shelters, 3-4 million will be euthanized this year.  Mobile app developer Cat Game Apps wants to help more of these animals find “forever homes” with their new apps Pet Royals and Pet Holidays.

“Engaging photos help more pets get noticed” says developer Tim Wilson.  “And our new apps make it easy for anyone to make engaging photos.”

The new apps make it easy to add accessories to photos.  Users simply take a photo of an animal’s face with their smart phone or tablet, choose the accessories they want to add to the photo, and then adjust the size and position of the accessories using their fingers. Text bubbles with quotes can be added to the images also.

Pet Royals includes a variety of royal accessories like crowns, jewels, hats and fascinators.  Pet Holidays includes holiday accessories such as Santa hats and reindeer antlers as well as items for Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.

“Every shelter understands the importance of good photos in increasing adoption rates.  But it is not just about getting great pictures of the animals, it is about creating attention getting images and Pet Royals and Pet Holidays make it easy for anyone to create fun and engaging pet photos.” adds Wilson.

Finished images, can be saved to the camera roll, emailed, or shared on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest. “These apps make a shelter’s social media efforts, newsletters and blog posts much more interesting without spending a fortune.” says Wilson. “Photos can also be uploaded to Shutterfly to make thank you cards, donation reminders or fundraising event invitations.”

This app is not just for shelters.  Tim explains, “If you are a small business with an office pet, an animal groomer or a blogger who focuses on the pet market, these apps are also a great way to connect to your audience in a viral way.  You can also just have fun with your own pets!”

For more fundraising ideas visit Cat Game Apps LLC.  The basic versions ofPet Royals and Pet Holidays are free and available on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.

Wallace and Hector’s cross country trip

Wallace is checking off his bucket list…and more !!!!

Great Salt Lake, Wallace Was Here

Wallace at the dog park

Wallace met Betty White

She was so nice and so sweet! She loved on both me and my bro Hector the Pit Bull! She met us on a break during rehearsal, and when it was mentioned that she really needed to get some lunch before she was due back on stage, her response was “I can eat lunch anytime”, and stayed just a bit longer to give us some more love! Thanks Betty for being so gracious with your time, and for loving dogs of all shapes and sizes!

Here’s a disc used by me and signed by the beautiful Wendie Malick from Hot In Cleveland. She thought I was so gorgeous, she even put it in writing!

BadRap Reunion

Roo and Clara drove 35 hours from Minnesota with Hector and Wallace.  Seven of the V-dogs who touched down in California five years ago were reunited for this photo at the recent Hoedown.

It looks easy – but check out the video of photographer Mark wrangling these squirmy dogs and giggling cowboys and cowgirls to get this fantastic shot:

Wallace was kind enough to grant a photo session with his new book when he was here for the big hoedown slumber party. Although what he REALLY wants in this moment is a break so he can “Please pretty please get back to that awesome toy box pleeease?”

One of the greatest pleasures we’ve had this year was to see Hector the Pit Bull again at our reunion. It’s been over four years since we put him on a plane to his wonderful new life with Roo and Clara. He’s still the same floppy guy, only with a little gray now around his muzzle. And those EYES!

and that Hector famous flop…

Dog lovers mural

February has started with a bang of fame, a fiasco. It all started because someone had written graffti on our fence and the neighbor’s fence. After a year of the graffiti being there, a month or so ago, the neighbor finally painted white paint on his fence. I tried to find an artist to paint a mural over ours.

During the past year, NO ONE SAID A WORD or DID ANYTHING about the graffiti. Not the city. Not the neighbors. Not the police. No one. Nada, zilch nothing.

A few people said they would paint a mural for me but flaked.

Finally, a few days ago, I found a group

831 Art Walls on Facebook…

https://www.facebook.com/831artwalls

831 Art Walls is an advocacy group that is pushing for the creation of a public art space where ANYONE can paint legally and freely.
Description
We would like a legal art wall where anyone can come and paint to express themselves and experience the joy of creation. Our public art wall’s goal is to allow for artistic expression, as well as allow for more experienced artists to be noticed. Our neighborhoods are seemingly stale according to the youth. We feel that these walls can bring some life to the Monterey County. Like our page in a show of support for our cause!

So I contacted them and said Seaside Artists could come and paint on our wall/fence. And they came to our house yesterday and painted away. I asked for a garden scene, with lots of vibrant colors. Maybe flowers with dogs/pit bulls coming up out of the center. Frank, the head artist said he wanted to ask the neighbor (since their fence is much larger than ours) if they could paint on their fence, too.

All was good. Everyone was happy. A lot of neighbors started coming by and asked Frank for him to come over and paint on their walls/fences, too.

About noonish, a police officer came by. She and I chatted about our dogs. She said that one of the neighbors had called about the graffiti that was going on. She was sent out to find out what was going on. I assured her that I had given Frank permission to paint.

Then about 4 p.m. the neighbor who hates pit bulls was out there bullying and threatening the artists. He said he was going to have 30 police cars and neighbors come out and stop/halt the painting. I told him to go away. His dog was running loose.

About an hour later, another police car came by. We chatted and he said that there was some city ordinance. I explained that the graffiti had been on the fence for a year and NO ONE came by but now that we were trying to make a mural to COVER the graffiti we were in trouble? He said he was just the messenger. That the artists cannot come by today to FINISH the work, and that I need to go to City Hall and get permission.

Seriously?

The neighbor received no such notice as I did so I thought that they cannot have different rules for neighbors. Besides, our fence is about two feet and the neighbors is about 12 feet. Hello. And the neighbor’s fence is almost done while our fence has just begun. And I found out looking thru the fence, they are now keeping poor Lola the mini poodle chained up on a short leash. Lobos, the Siberian husky, found a way to peek his head up out OVER the fence. If he ever gets out, there will be trouble. I wish I could get those two dogs a new loving home.  I digress. Both dogs were barking a lot.

Frank should have painted MY wall first, completed it and then done the neighbor’s which I asked him to do and he went ahead and did what he wanted to do.  now I’m not happy because my mural/garden did not get done, plus the neighbor who called the police is up in arms, and I got a notice  to go to city hall and my adjacent neighbor did not and it was my adjacent neighbor’s fence that the other neighbors objected to.  My fence is maybe 2 feet and the adjacent fence of my neighbor is like 12 ft.

The 831 Wall Art folks are going to talk to the Mayor and the Police Chief. I will call a lawyer and we shall hopefully get this resolved.

They did take photos and are supposed to send them to me.

Moral of this tale?

if/when someone asks you to do work for them, paid or not, DO IT… complete it… Give the customer/client what THEY want. That is YOUR job (not doing whatever you want to do).

and

✦✧✦ I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. – John Lennon

the city, neighbors, media did nothing about the graffiti that was on the fence for a year and it was ugly… f bombs and now all the entities are up in arms because I had artists paint over the graffiti…

I was on TV twice tonight, did an interview, TV crews all day here… the neighbor caved and painted his fence,  whitewashed it…

and I got another neighbor to do an interview so at least there were two sane people talking on the interview… and his daughter painted some of my fence too… and he said there should have been a compromise but it was just knee jerk reactions, hysteria.

it occurs to me that what happens when/if graffiti artists come and paint on the neighbors fence AGAIN… how many times will the home owners be expected to paint over the graffiti???

there is a city council meeting tonight and the loud mouths are supposed to be there running their mouths, negatively…

here is our fence… with the mural… am sure my roomie will paint over it… sheeesh…

me on the news… meanwhile Cici was running around wild, barking, wanting to be famous, on the news, too… but alas she is confined sort of. am doing a poor job of keeping her off her leg but at least she is not hopping/limping… what a day !

Who let the dogs get into politics?

Animal lovers and pet owners are mad at Mitt Romney. It started with the Mitt Romney story about his dog Seamus. Romney took his family from Boston to Ontario, Canada, a 12 hour trip. He strapped the poor dog to the top of the car in a kennel for the entire time. And apparently did not walk the dog once. And when the dog suffered from diarrhea, Romney stopped off at a car wash and hosed the dog kennel and car off and went on his way.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/dogs-on-the-roof-campaign-craziness-continues-to-s-c-and-n-h/

What kind of a dog owner would do that to a dog? And Romney does not seem to know that anything was wrong, justifying it by saying that his dog practically lived in a kennel all the time?

So a blog started in 2007 Dogs Against Romney now also has a Facebook page, where they tell the tale, post about Romney being mean, post media stories about Romney and are selling t-shirts and mugs.

Dogs Against Romney was founded by Scott Crider after he read in the Boston Globe about the incident with Romney and his Irish Setter named Seamus, the 1983 vacation to Canada in the family station wagon.

As reported by the Globe’s Neil Swidey in a 2007 article:
The ride was largely what you’d expect with five brothers, ages 13 and under, packed into a wagon they called the ”white whale.”
As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble.
”Dad!” he yelled. ”Gross!” A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.
As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway.
It was a tiny preview of a trait he would grow famous for in business: emotion-free crisis management.

http://www.dogsagainstromney.com/2012/01/dogs-against-romney-on-rachel-maddow.html

besides all of the other problems with Romney being an out of touch millionaire who wants to tax the poor and not the rich, his own party does not want him to be the candidate, Mitt betting $10,000, Mitt says corporations are people, Mitt is being accused of being a vulture capitalist and now Newt and the media (Rachel Maddow and others) have also been telling the dog’s tale. (Mitt’s compassionate/empathetic response is saying everyone is jealous of his money/riches).  Rachel brilliantly pointed out his disconnect.

http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/12/10143548-ahead-on-the-112-maddow-show

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45972011/ns/today-today_people/t/romney-dog-tale-resurfaces-gingrich-attack-ad/#.Tw-tPBW-ZFc

Newt does not have a dog…  but that did not stop him from putting up a pets for Newt page online which shows that he or his staff realize that animal lovers / advocates / owners vote…and he looks like he is about to barf on the page.

Jon Stewart did an amazing riff on The Daily Show, flashbacks of Newt insulting just about everyone and making condescending remarks about blacks, Latinos, women and other minorities.

http://petswithnewt.com/home/page

http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2012/01/11/gingrich-tries-dog-romney-video-about-pets-controversial-trip

http://spreadingromney.com/

http://www.examiner.com/howard-stern-in-national/howard-stern-rips-mitt-romney-oveh-alleged-animal-abuse-claims

If Newt truly cared about dogs/animals, instead of wasting money on attack ads and weird websites, he’d donate his ill gotten gains to people and animals in need. When I see all of the money bandied about, millions of dollars that could be better spent to feed and house people and feed and house homeless pets, it makes me sick. And I think I am not alone in feeling that way. It seems as though that Mitt and Newt and the others do not get that we SEE through their disingenuous horse, cow, bull and dog sh– and ain’t buying nor voting for it.

I posted the Dogs against Romney blog to Rachel Maddow’s facebook page numerous times and other media pages and voila, Rachel  began her show with the story about Romney and included Dogs against Romney… free PR… anyone want to get some Free Publicity about your Pups story? let me know…

Pet Blogger Challenge 2012

CHALLENGE QUESTIONS #2: FOR THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED LAST YEAR:

thanks to Edie Jarolim and Amy … for this opportunity…

1. Provide a link to your post from last year’s Pet Blogger Challenge so we can refresh our memories.

https://celiasue.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/pet-blogger-challenge/

2. What do you consider the most important goals you set out in last year’s post?

to write every day and have fun

3. Have you made progress toward those goals, or have your goals changed over the past year?

Definitely have gone beyond those goals… got more involved with pet blog hops, readership and subscription to my blog has increased, connected with other pet bloggers and the Patrick movement, No Kill community, and others… WOW…

Lots of Progress.

From 200+ a day to 300+ and in September more than 2,000 in one day… am approaching 300,000 views/visitors…

am thinking about various options… would like to do a magazine to be able to make an income from ads

am just in the process of writing for a huge network that I’ll be writing blog posts for, with 400,000+ fans… tons of opportunities opening up…

I learned how to do blog hops, videos, and all sorts of other cool things… yay…

and I even made progress on my writing blog and created another blog about spiritual growth… although I do not blog on those very frequently, I am pleased with what I have done… what do you think ?

http://celiasueink.wordpress.com/

4. Has your opinion of blogging on a schedule or as the spirit moves you changed? Which are you doing now? Do you still worry about lost traffic, momentum, etc?

I worry about my dog … I still write almost every day and sometimes more than once in a day depending on what is happening… at times, it is overwhelming the amount of news there is to write about … makes a HUGE difference being plugged into the various communities now

5. Are you generating income from your blog? Has this changed since last year?

not really… I do product reviews from time to time

If you are generating income, how (e.g. sponsor ads, affiliate relationships, spokesperson opportunities)?

If not currently, do you hope to in the future — and how?

if/when I move the blog to another platform (seems like a HUGE undertaking) then will be able to generate income and if/when I do a magazine… anyone else want to do?  takes a team, don’t want to do it on my own

6. Have your likes and dislikes about blogging changed since last year?

No one tells me what to write, how to write, when to write, etc. am my own boss… love that… and I just wrote for another network and had someone to answer to, and it made a difference in the writing, stepped it up a notch, so there is something to be said for that, working with a team, collaborating… they also made the blog post LOOK GOOD in ways that I did not envision, very very cool. (the blog post is not up yet, but I will let you know when it is)…

7. Overall, are you pleased with the progress you made in 2011?

delighted… much more than expected… but then I had low expectations to begin with…which I prefer… I find that when I don’t expect a lot, I get much more than when I expect a lot and get disappointed…

the cross country road trip did not happen and although I thought it was a good idea, realistically, don’t think I’m ready yet to do that…

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012?

with the huge influx of new visitors, readers and subscribers flowing over from the new network, the SKY is the limit… it shall truly be an amazing enchanted year of miracles.

My writing will be more succinct, funnier and on target and garner a book deal, a few book deals… ultimately, that is my goal, to write and publish books.

Someone on Facebook said I will be famous. I don’t really care about that… am more concerned about the prosperity and what I can do with my first million… get homes for lots of animals, change the doggie world, educate folks, all for the higher good… my bottomline is transforming this world into a better one… and one way to do that is to make folks laugh, lighten up, so watch out !!!!
